How to "CAP" a flight
Outlined below is the process to 'CAP' a flight or decrease the number of seats available for sale on any given flight.
Step-by-step guide
This procedure can be done on a flight-by-flight basis, or can be done in the allocations template and rolled over to many flights and date ranges.
Listed below are the 'flight-by-flight' steps:
- Access the seat allocations by going to Operations → Seat Allocations.
- This will bring you to the Seat Allocations pop up.
- Enter your start date A, your end date B, and select the flight you'd like to change C.
- Once everything is selected, click on the Look Up button.
- The screen will populate with the series of flights you have selected (based on the date range).
- Locate the flight for which you wish to change the allocations (the flight will highlight with a dark blue bar).
- Click on the Edit button at the bottom of the screen. This will make the 3 right-hand quadrants active.
- Working from the bottom up:
- Reduce the seats allocated in each booking class to the maximum number of seats you want to be allowed for sale.
- In the case below, should I want to only sell 40 seats on my flight, even though there are 75 economy seats, I would make the maximum number of seats available in each class of service no more than 40.
- Once you have have decreased the seats in the bottom quadrant, move on to the middle quadrant and reduce the seats to the maximum you wish to sell.
- When that is complete, go to the top quadrant and reduce the number of seats in the Curtail section.
- By using the Curtail section, it still allows to have the actual number of seats available on your flight. All you are doing is holding back 'X' number seats for sale.
- Should you wish to increase the number of available seats at a later point in time, decrease the number in Curtail and work from top to bottom to increase the number of allocated seats.
