Standard GDS Message Composition

GDS Messages have their own specific compositon to them. This is essential to know if you wish to read the GDS messages that come into your Queue.

Address (Mandatory)

The address of the person you are sending the message to.

Each address in the address element will be composed of:

a.) three-letter city/airport code

b.) two-letter office function designator

c.) Airline Designator

Communications Reference (Mandatory)

This line is comprised of 2 elements

a.) The address of the person the message is from

b.) The date and time

Message Identifier (Mandatory)3-Digit code which identifies the Type of messageRLR
Record Locator (Mandatory)6 Digit Record Locator found in the bottom right hand corner of all GDS reservations.123ABC
Name (Mandatory)

The name of the passengers on the reservation, preceeded by the appropriate number of seats to be reserved for that family name.

Tips:

a.) When a hypenated family name is involved join both elements of the name by deleting the space.

ie: Sara Smith-Johnson becomes 1SMITHJOHNSON/SARA

Segment Element (Mandatory)

The Segment element must be indicated to show from where and how the passenger will get to the boarding point of each indivdual segment.

The Segment element must include:

a.) Airline Designator

b.) Flight Number

c.) Reservations Booking Designator aka Fare Class Code

d.) Date

e.) Month

f.) Boarding Point (3 letter airport code)

g.) Deplaning Point (3 letter airport code)

h.)Action/Advice/Status Code

i.) Number of seats

j.) Times, in 24-Hr Clock

k.) Day Change Indicator (Only used when the flight lands on a different day than it started)

Continuation Element (Optional)A continuation element is defined as the set of one or more confirmed segments that provide on ward travel. Continuation segments follow the same syntax as a Segment element, however, a continuation element uses only one Advice code (HK) and can be actioned with only one action code (XX - to remove it from the itinerary). End of Text (Mandatory)Special character auto inserted by communications. Do not delete it from a message.
